Firstly, about the book cover. The eye catching cover sets off a lot of ideas and thoughts in motion. Is this gate lock some part of the story? So many questions in mind and all these could be satisfied only if I read. So, I picked up the book and began… It has been a long time I held a book till late hours of night ie. Its an experience tool. Something to dive deep into and stay there till the last page.

The book is a tearjerker but in totally empathetic way. I hate crying when I see movies or read books. But here, admittedly I was crying unabashedly while reading. At one point I realized I was crying so much that I needed to grab the tissue paper by the kitchen counter. However, I brushed off that thought — since it meant breaking off from reading to do that. So I stayed put and wept myself throughout the dark hours of the night.

Carl Jung and the Shadow: Integrating the Hidden Power of Your Dark Side

Oh yes, even the setting matched the title of the book. The novel has several elements that will appeal the reader: Present and Future — They connect each other and yet want to go the opposite direction. These contrasts make the reading unputdownable The letter holds most of the story together.

Do grab this amazingly beautiful novel. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Epic, unputdownable but really predictable gobbled up one star, there. You need to hang on till the end to realise because for thriller lovers, this might be an entirely different concept. For the initial seven chapters, you would feel that this story was just written for the sake of having strong female characters but you need to hold on. Breathe easy, and continue. Everything will start falling in place post the chapter "Attraversiamo". The characterisation of Meera, Susan, Matthew and the rest - is a must read in any of your long journeys.

  • Crazy Good Stories!

A well-written story that sensitively explores relationships and friendships in some detail - Radhika Tabrez goes beyond the norm in terms of exploring layers underneath the visible surface. Susan, Meera and Matt each have a past with decisions made and not made to live with , deal with conflicts in the present, and prepare to face uncertain futures. The story of how they come to terms with varied emotions of guilt, understanding, acceptance and love is one well worth reading. The novel is set in the fictional island of Bydore, which is India in a microcosm.

The setting itself is interesting - the island could be an idyllic tropical paradise, except that it is subject to the same pressures, pulls and fissures that are evident to us on a much larger scale in India as a whole. All in all, a wonderful debut novel from a talented author!

See a Problem?

It took me a hundred pages or so to really get into the story enough to know what was going on and who was who and where the story was going. I might actually read this in the future when I'm feeling particularly patient; I couldn't get into it at the moment as there were too many disconnected characters and not enough plot development for my thin patience at this time. The middle book of a trilogy CAN be a cliffhanger, but not the freaking first one. Our values shape our character, and our character guides our actions. I hate crying when I see movies or read books. I may go back and try it again some day, not sure.
